Tomintoul / Tomintoul-Glenlivet :From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems :
A modern distillery, production only began in 1965 and it was not until 1972 that the make began to appear in bottle. Built by Tomintoul Distillery Ltd and bought by Scottish Universal Investment Trust : \L\1art of Lonrho) in 1973. Managed by Whyte & Mackay, which was itself bought from Lonrho by Brent Walker in February, 1989 and subsequently sold to American Brands Inc. the following year. The distillery was doubled from two to four stills in 1974.
Tomintoul is the highest village in the Scottish Highlands, although the distillery itself, being outside the village, is not quite as high above sea level as Dalwhinnie. Tomintoul is regularly cut off by snow in winter.
