Exploding casks flew through the air and a local newspaper reported, ".f . . thousands of gallons of whisky were lost, either burning or running to waste over the land . . . even farm animals became intoxicated" Cows were not milked because they could not be got to their feet. Banff was known locally as "Inverboyndie distillery"

From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems :
Built in 1824 Banff distillery was then rebuilt on a new site in 1863 and once more in 1877 after being burnt down. It was closed and dismantled in 1983.
The name comes from the location of the distillery, situated at the Mill of Banff, west of the mouth of the River Deveron. The water supply came from a spring on Fiskaidly Farm. One of the first distilleries located to take advantage of the railways.
