From Collins Pocket Reference 'Whisky' :
A modern distillery, built in 1960, Macduff is one of the few distilleries to give its single malt a different name from its own (although independent bottlers do market the whisky, including miniatures, under the name of Macduff). The malt takes its name from the nearby River Deveron from which it drawn the water used for cooling in the production process. Macduff Distillery is now owned by William Lawson Distillers, a subsidiary of Barcadi Ltd., Bermuda.

From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems :
Built in 1960 by a consortium which included George Crawford, Morty Dykes and Brodie Hepburn. Acquired by William Lawson in 1972, which in turn became part of the General Beverage Corporation, the Luxembourg company which controls Martini & Rossi's world interests. Now a subsidiary of Bacardi Limited, Hamilton, Bermuda.
Extended from two to three stills in 1966 and to four in 1968.
The malt takes its name from the River Deveron valley rather than the distillery itself, which is known as Macduff. It can be obtained bottled by independents as Macduff.
Situated to the east of Banff on the east bank of the River Deveron, about half a mile from the Moray Firth.
The Gelly Burn is the water source used by the distillery.
